We hope that you’re staying safe and healthy. We wanted to touch base and give you a quick update on The Summit Foundation and what we’re doing to help our neighbors in Summit County during this crisis and ongoing.
Summit Cares Emergency Fund
One month ago in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Foundation immediately established the Summit Cares Emergency Fund, a rapid response fund to provide grants for community partners who are addressing basic human needs. We started it with $100,000 of our funds from the estate of Harriett Bobo, and over 150 generous donors have already given, bringing the total to over $550,000. We’ve already put over $110,000 back out to our local community partners who are working the frontlines to help people (FIRC, Care Clinic, Advocates for Victims of Assault, among others). We have done an analysis of the financial impact of COVID-19 on our nonprofit partners, and we estimate the needs will be substantial and ongoing for the entire community.
Scholarships for Deserving High School Students
The Foundation has also recently announced our scholarships for deserving high school students to attend college or technical school, which this year totaled over $300,000 to 121 students. The awards were presented to students virtually in lieu of an in-person ceremony. This financial support—in addition to some much-needed good news and recognition—will have a lasting impact on the students and their families.
Grant Support for Community Partners
We know all of our nonprofit partners are feeling the impact of this crisis, and we will continue to provide critical grants in all categories. During our recent grant application deadline and overall during this difficult time, we have suggested that our community partners focus on their core programming and mission. We also advised they tackle the tough decisions now, in order to get through it for the long run.
We are Here for You and Thank You
This is an uncertain time, and we want you to know that we are here for you and will help you in any way possible. We are working remotely and will be available for you via email or cell phone.
Donations are always appreciated and are needed now more than ever, but mainly we want to thank you for everything that you’ve done for the Foundation and our community. Please take care of yourself and reach out any time.
